Working on Plots Across Whitefield

Because our yard is in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, getting vans, tippers, and plant machinery into Whitefield is a straightforward run clockwise around the M60. We don't sub-contract our groundwork out to third parties; the team that comes out to measure up and check your levels is the same crew that arrives on day one with the digger.

Ground conditions and property layouts vary quite a bit between the avenues off Bury New Road (A56), the residential estates around Hillock and Moss Lane, and the larger sloping plots down towards Stand and Ringley Road. Much of the local subsoil sits on heavy glacial boulder clay. When clay holds onto winter rainwater, any driveway or patio laid on a shallow or poorly compacted sub-base will eventually dip, hold puddles, or shift under the weight of modern family cars and SUVs.

How We Handle Site Access, Spoil & Preparation

Digging out a two-car driveway to the proper depth of 200mm to 250mm generates a surprising tonnage of clay, old turf, or broken concrete. Rather than leaving a skip sitting on your street for a fortnight, we coordinate grab-lorry collections or use our own tippers alongside mechanical mini-diggers to clear spoil efficiently.

  • • Sub-base construction: We lay a heavy-duty geotextile membrane over the excavated clay sub-grade so the stone cannot punch downwards, followed by MOT Type 1 hardcore compacted in layers with a heavy vibrating plate.
  • • Surface water management: When converting a front lawn into parking space, water must not run out onto the public pavement. We set laser-guided falls and fit ACO channel drains or permeable surfacing compliant with SuDS rules.
  • • Tight access for rear gardens: On properties where side ginnels are narrow, we bring in narrow-access tracked dumpers and micro-excavators, boarding over existing paths and lawns to prevent damage.

Block paving, porous resin-bound surfacing, and heavy-duty tarmac driveways. Complete with deep Type 1 sub-bases, concrete edge haunching, and recessed manhole covers.

Front boundary walls, pillars, steps, and structural retaining brickwork for split-level gardens, built on poured concrete footings with weep holes.
